Passkeys and the future of authentication

Passwords are a relic of a less secure era. That's why Memory Index now supports passkeys—a modern authentication standard backed by the FIDO Alliance and supported across all major platforms. With passkeys, you can sign in using your fingerprint, face recognition, or a hardware security key.

Under the hood, we use the WebAuthn protocol via the SimpleWebAuthn library. When you register a passkey from your security settings, your device creates a public-private key pair. The public key is stored on our servers; the private key never leaves your device. During sign-in, your device proves it holds the private key without ever transmitting it.

Passkeys eliminate phishing, credential stuffing, and the friction of checking your email for a magic link. They're the most secure and convenient way to access your Memory Index vault, and we encourage every user to set one up from their dashboard security settings.
